Tyler Belvins, the professional video gamer and Twitch sensation famously known as Ninja, has revealed his battle with skin cancer.

The 32-year-old gamer shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, expressing his shock over the diagnosis.

“A few weeks back, I visited a dermatologist for my annual skin/mole check, which Jess had scheduled for me proactively. They identified a mole on my foot’s bottom that needed removal as a precaution. It turned out to be melanoma, but there’s optimism as we caught it early,” he explained, recounting the appointment set up by his wife.

He elaborated, “Another dark spot emerged nearby, so today they biopsied and removed a larger area around the melanoma, hoping for clear non-melanoma margins under the microscope. I’m thankful we found this early, but I urge everyone to prioritize regular skin checkups.”

Belvins boasts nearly 24 million YouTube subscribers and holds the record for the most followers on Twitch, with 19 million devoted fans.

Earning fame in the professional gaming realm, Belvins made history as the first gamer to grace the cover of ESPN The Magazine. He authored the graphic novel, “Ninja: The Most Dangerous Game,” and made appearances in the NFL’s 100-year anniversary Super Bowl advertisement. Additionally, he launched his own shoe line, the Adidas “Time In” Nite Jogger, and featured on the hit reality competition show, The Masked Singer, in 2019.

In a notable move, Blevins transitioned from Twitch to Microsoft’s Mixer in 2019, only to return to Twitch in 2020 following Mixer’s closure.

Netflix’s Impact on NASCAR Ratings: A Promising Upward Trend

Explore how Netflix’s Full Speed docuseries is potentially influencing NASCAR’s TV ratings, with insights into recent viewership trends and the sport’s exposure to new audiences.

Is Netflix influencing NASCAR’s ratings? While it’s challenging to pinpoint the exact impact, the statistics indicate a potential boost in viewership.

NASCAR hit a stride with its Netflix docuseries, Full Speed, in January, gaining significant popularity. Recent data shows promising signs for NASCAR’s TV ratings, with four consecutive races (excluding rain delays) experiencing an uptick in viewership, as reported by The Athletic. Notably, the last two weeks saw double-digit year-over-year increases of 19% for Phoenix and 11% for Bristol.

The recent surge in ratings is encouraging, but it’s crucial to consider various factors affecting these numbers. For instance, Chase Elliott’s absence at the start of the previous season may skew year-over-year comparisons. A clearer understanding will emerge as the season progresses, revealing whether the ratings remain steady even after races involving Elliott.

Nielsen data, shared by The Athletic, sheds light on some key insights. An impressive 88% of viewers who tuned into Full Speed’s premiere hadn’t watched the previous year’s championship race, indicating a significant influx of new fans.

NASCAR COO Steve O’Donnell highlighted the impact, stating, “It’s impossible to say exactly how much it’s driving the ratings, but you’ve certainly got to look at that stat and say we exposed the sport to a new audience.”

While it’s too early to predict Full Speed’s long-term impact on NASCAR’s fan base, the consistent growth in viewership each week is undeniable. This upward trend suggests that a substantial portion of Full Speed’s audience is converting their interest into watching NASCAR races, potentially signaling a positive shift for the sport and other industries considering similar strategies.
